ABC Countdown to the Last Day of School: Letter Cc is Christmas Day

Today is C for Christmas Day!

What is your favourite part of Christmas? Singing carols? Making cards for your loved ones? Watching parades? Making ornaments? Baking? Watching Christmas movies? Today in our ABC Countdown: Christmas Day!
  • We’ll make a graph of our favourite Christmas activities.
  • Next we’ll make some growing and shrinking patterns with Christmas pictures.
  • We’ll play “Santa Says” (like Simon Says with Christmas-themed instructions).
  • We’ll do some Christmas themed centres.
  • We’ll play “Guess Who?” with clues:
    • I’m thinking of someone who has a red nose and leads the sleigh.
    • I’m thinking of someone who has a body made of 3 snowballs and has a carrot nose.
    • I’m thinking of someone who is short who helps make toys for children.
  • Then of course, we’ll dance to our favourite Just Dance song!

ABC Countdown: Christmas Day

Here are ten more festive and engaging ideas for celebrating Christmas Day in Kindergarten:

  1. Christmas Craft Stations: Set up different craft stations where children can make holiday-themed crafts like paper snowflakes, ornament decorating, or creating Christmas cards. Provide various materials like glitter, stickers, and colored paper.
  2. Christmas Storytime: Read classic Christmas stories such as “The Night Before Christmas” by Clement Clarke Moore or “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” by Dr. Seuss. Discuss the stories and their themes of kindness and giving.
  3. Gingerbread House Decorating: Provide pre-made gingerbread houses or graham crackers and frosting for the children to decorate their own gingerbread houses. Use candy, sprinkles, and other edible decorations.
  4. Holiday Sing-Along: Organize a sing-along with popular Christmas songs like “Jingle Bells,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” and “Frosty the Snowman.” Encourage the children to sing and dance along.
  5. Christmas Around the World: Teach the children about different Christmas traditions from around the world. Create a mini “world tour” with stations representing countries like Germany, Mexico, and Japan, complete with decorations and activities from each culture.
  6. Visit from Santa Claus: Arrange for someone to dress up as Santa Claus and visit the classroom. Santa can give out small gifts or treats and listen to the children’s Christmas wishes.
  7. Christmas Baking: Have a simple baking activity where children can decorate cookies or cupcakes with festive toppings. Ensure the activity is safe and easy, using pre-baked goods if necessary.
  8. Holiday Movie Time: Show a short, age-appropriate Christmas movie or cartoon, such as “Frosty the Snowman” or “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” Provide popcorn and let the children relax and enjoy the show.
  9. Christmas Tree Decorating: Set up a small Christmas tree in the classroom and let the children help decorate it with ornaments, tinsel, and lights. They can also make their own ornaments to add to the tree.
  10. Acts of Kindness Advent Calendar: Create an advent calendar with each day representing an act of kindness. Have the children participate in simple, kind activities, like making cards for a local nursing home or collecting canned goods for a food drive.
