ABC Countdown to the Last Day of School: Letter Vv is Video Day
Letter Vv is for Video Day!
Video Day in Kindergarten can be an exciting and educational experience. Here are ten engaging ideas to make Video Day special:
- Educational Video Screening: Show short educational videos that align with the current curriculum. Topics can include animals, space, nature, and basic science concepts. Websites like PBS Kids and National Geographic Kids offer great content.
- Animated Storytime: Screen animated versions of popular children’s books. Many classic stories have been adapted into short films or animations, which can be both entertaining and educational.
- Dance and Movement Videos: Play videos that encourage children to get up and move. This could include dance-along videos, yoga for kids, or exercise routines. Channels like GoNoodle are perfect for this.
- Nature Documentaries: Show age-appropriate nature documentaries that explore different ecosystems, animals, and plants. This can help spark a love for the environment and curiosity about the natural world.
- Interactive Video Games: Use educational video games that promote learning through play. These can be projected on a screen and played as a class, with each child taking turns to participate.
- DIY Video Projects: Record a short video of the children talking about their favorite activities or toys and then play it back for them. This can be a fun way for them to see themselves on screen and share their interests with classmates.
- Puppet Shows: Watch videos of puppet shows that tell engaging and educational stories. Puppetry can captivate young audiences and teach valuable lessons through entertaining narratives.
- Music Videos and Sing-Alongs: Play music videos that feature children’s songs and encourage sing-alongs. This can be a lively and interactive way to enjoy music together.
- Craft and DIY Instructional Videos: Show simple, step-by-step craft or DIY videos that the children can follow along with. After watching the video, they can create the crafts themselves with provided materials.
- Virtual Field Trips: Take the class on a virtual field trip to museums, zoos, aquariums, or historical sites through videos. Many institutions offer virtual tours specifically designed for young audiences.
These activities ensure that Video Day is both fun and educational, offering a variety of ways to engage and entertain kindergarten students while incorporating different learning opportunities. Here are some lesson prompts you might use:
How do you make a video?
What would you make a video about? Would it be nonfiction (real information) or fiction (a made-up story)? Let’s brainstorm!
Hundreds of people work together just to make one movie. One of those jobs is the Film Director.
Let’s do a video game workout!
You can make your own cartoon!
