ABC Countdown to the Last Day of School: Letter Ll is Lollipop Day
Letter Ll is for Lollipop Day!
Here are ten sweet and fun ideas for celebrating Lollipop Day in Kindergarten:
- Lollipop Decorating Station: Set up a station with plain lollipops and various toppings like sprinkles, edible glitter, and small candies. Children can decorate their lollipops to create personalized treats.
- Lollipop Math: Use lollipops as a math manipulative for counting, sorting, and simple addition and subtraction activities. Children can group lollipops by color, size, or number of licks.
- Lollipop Science Experiment: Conduct a simple science experiment with lollipops, such as observing how they dissolve in water or comparing the time it takes for different flavors to disappear.
- Lollipop Art: Provide paper and markers for children to draw or paint pictures of lollipops. They can also create collages using lollipop wrappers or tissue paper to make colorful designs.
- Lollipop Storytime: Read books about lollipops or featuring characters enjoying lollipops, such as “How Many Licks?” by Tama Janowitz or “Lollipop Logic: Grades K-2” by Bonnie Risby.
- Lollipop Relay Race: Set up a relay race where children must balance a lollipop on a spoon and race to the finish line without dropping it. This activity promotes balance and coordination.
- Lollipop Scavenger Hunt: Hide lollipops around the classroom or playground for children to find. You can also attach clues to each lollipop that lead to the next hidden treat.
- Lollipop Patterning: Use different colored lollipops to create simple patterns like AB, ABB, or ABC. Children can continue the patterns or create their own.
- Lollipop Music and Movement: Play music and let the children dance and move around the room with lollipops in hand. They can pretend to conduct an orchestra or use the lollipops as dance props.
- Lollipop Treat Bags: Provide small treat bags or jars for children to create their own lollipop assortments to take home. They can choose their favorite flavors and colors to share with family and friends.
Let’s visit a factory to watch how lollipops are made.
Let’s draw a lollipop. Some lollipops are ovals and others are round. Some lollipops have a spiral shape. Can you draw a spiral? Start in the middle and stay close to your inside line but don’t touch it. Your spiral will get bigger and bigger as you go around and around.
Music for Lollipop Day in Kindergarten
Let’s dance to the songs, “Lollipop” by the Chordettes and “Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows” by Lesley Gore. We can play dance leader. One person will lead and everyone else will copy their dance moves.
