ABC Countdown to the Last Day of School: Letter Jj is for Jokes Day
Letter Jj is for Jokes Day!
It’s Jokes Day. Tell your best joke!
What makes you laugh? Draw a picture and write about it in your journal.
Here are ten fun and engaging ideas for celebrating Jokes Day in Kindergarten:
- Joke Sharing Circle: Have a circle time where each child gets a chance to tell their favorite joke. Provide simple jokes in advance for those who need help finding one, and encourage lots of laughter and clapping after each joke.
- Joke Book Creation: Help the children create their own joke books. Provide them with paper and crayons or markers to illustrate and write down jokes. Compile all the pages into a class joke book that can be kept in the classroom library.
- Funny Faces Photo Booth: Set up a photo booth with silly props like oversized glasses, hats, and mustaches. Take funny photos of the children making goofy faces, and print them out to create a “Funny Faces” wall in the classroom.
- Joke Jar: Create a joke jar filled with simple, age-appropriate jokes. Throughout the day, allow each child to pick a joke from the jar and read it to the class. This can be a fun transition activity between lessons.
- Comedy Show: Organize a mini comedy show where children can perform their jokes in front of the class. Provide a small stage area and a microphone (real or pretend) to make it feel like a real comedy show.
- Funny Storytime: Read books that are full of humor, such as “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!” by Mo Willems or “Elephant & Piggie” series by Mo Willems. Discuss what makes the stories funny and share lots of laughs.
- Silly Dress-Up Day: Encourage children to come to school dressed in their silliest outfits. They can mix and match clothes, wear funny hats, or come up with their own creative costumes. Have a fashion show to showcase their outfits.
- Knock-Knock Door: Create a “Knock-Knock Door” with a cardboard frame. Children take turns standing behind the door and telling knock-knock jokes to the class. This adds a fun and interactive element to joke-telling.
- Funny Puppets: Provide materials for children to make their own funny puppets using paper bags, socks, or popsicle sticks. Have a puppet show where the puppets tell jokes to each other and the audience.
- Joke-themed Crafts: Organize crafts related to jokes, like making a “Laughing Emoji” mask or a “Joke Book” bookmark. These crafts can be simple and quick, keeping the focus on fun and humor.
Jokes Day Storytime
We’ll read a story about a boy who was bored and decided to play a trick on people in his town. See if you think his joke is funny. Let’s read the story, “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”.
When is a good time to make jokes? When is a bad time to make jokes?

And it sure ain’t funny. Why won’t it give?”
One day a rooster came in our yard
And caught that chicken right off its guard.
We’re having eggs now, just like we used to
