How to Embed Boom Cards in D2L

If you use Desire2Learn, embedding activities is a great way for students to practice skills at home with their families. Boom cards are interactive slide decks that are self-correcting and often have audio instructions, making them perfect for our youngest learners.

Go to Boom Learning and make a free account. Make a fake “student”. Under “Store” there’s a green button that says Find Free. There are lots of amazing free decks. Add some to your library and assign them to your fake student.

Login as the student, open the deck you want to embed, and copy the link from the address bar. Paste it in this website (it’s free, no sign in required) and click generate. Copy the code.

Login to D2L. Click the Insert Stuff button in your D2L News Feed or Activity Feed. (In the Activity Feed it pops up when you click inside the box where you type.) Choose Enter Embed Code and paste the entire code in. It should look something like this.

Since this is not the most straightforward process, I work in batches to schedule posts with embedded Boom Cards. For example, I’ll assign about ten decks to my fake student and then embed each one, but click “Post Later” to schedule each post so only one or two are posted each week.

Are there any other tech tips you’d like to hear about for Boom Cards? Do you use them?
