What is a Piano?
The piano is one of the most popular musical instruments in the world. It has 88 keys (white and black) that run across a keyboard. These keys can be pressed down to cause vibrations, which make notes. The player can change the pitch of the note (how high or low it sounds) by pressing certain keys with their fingers.
This is what a piano keyboard looks like:
How does a piano make sound?
A piano, or any other instrument for that matter, makes sound when something vibrates. Inside a piano, there are metal strings. The strings are stretched across a wooden frame, and they have small pieces of felt on the underside.
When you press down a piano key, a tiny hammer strikes the string. This creates vibrations in the string, making the piano sound we hear.
Notes on a Piano
A piano has 88 keys. The keys are arranged into groups of 7 keys, called “octaves.” Each key in an octave has a name: A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. The white keys are named after the alphabet letters, while the black keys have names of their own.
