4 Reasons You Should Send This Note Home On the First Day of School: A Back-to-School FREEBIE
The first day of school is a big deal. It’s when we get to meet our new students and their parent(s). And it’s the perfect time for parent communication! I always take this opportunity to send home this short note, asking parents to fill out some brief information about their child so that I can get to know them better. Parents have mentioned how much they appreciate me taking the time to ask for their thoughts or opinions, and it helps us form stronger relationships early on in the year. Have you had any success with parent communication at the beginning of the school year? How do you start a positive relationship with students’ families? Share your tips below!
Here are 4 reasons you should send this short note home on the first day of school:
- To get to know your students. Find out information about their interests and home life directly from the people who know them best.
- To get to know your students’ family. Learn what their hopes and fears are for the school year.
- As an opportunity for parent communication. Sending a child to school is a source of stress for many parents. When a parent feels like the child’s teacher really knows and understands them, many fears are alleviated.
- To start on the right foot with parents! Sharing the note with families helps set a positive tone for the school year. Great teachers want to work with families to help students have a successful year.
