Make a Free DIY 2021 Digital Time Capsule – Remember what it was like to live through the Covid-19 pandemic
This is a quick and easy guide to help you create a digital time capsule to remember a – dare I say it – unprecedented time in the world. While there are many parts of the pandemic we may wish to forget, this time capsule will help you remember the moments of bravery, peace, and connection in your own family and community and across the world.
To make your own digital time capsule, you will need:
- A recording device for video/audio
- A book/video about the pandemic (optional – more information below)
- A plan for organizing all parts of the digital time capsule
- A plan for saving/distributing the digital time capsule to the right people at the right time
Here’s how we’re making our digital time capsule, the quick and easy way (because – pandemic):
- Gather our family and tell kids we’re going to talk about some of our memories about the pandemic so we can listen to them when we’re older.
- Use the audio recording app on a phone to record our conversation.
- Optional: Read a story about the pandemic, such as “The Great Realization” by Tomos Roberts.
- Ask some of the interview questions below and let each family member take a turn to answer.
- Save the audio file to each of our Google Drives and attach it to an email sent to each other. Title the email and the audio file clearly, such as “2021 Pandemic Time Capsule”.
- Make an event in Google Calendar on the date we plan to open it with full instructions on where to find the audio file.
