Graphing – Concrete Graphs and Pictographs

We are learning about concrete graphs – making graphs by lining up real objects. We started by using graphing mats and sorting toys by colour.

Try it at home:
In a laundry basket, gather your socks. Choose 4 colours of your choice and write down each one on a piece of paper (if you have, use different colours of construction paper). Set the colour names in a line on the floor and under each colour, put the socks that match with it.
When you finish, interpret the information your graph shows. Which colour has the most? Which colour has the least? Which ones have the same (equal) amount?
