Capacity: Which Holds More?

For this activity you will need: one large bowl, a big cup, a small cup, a small cooking pot, beans/rice/flour, and a cookie tray to keep the beans from rolling on the table.

Pour the beans in the bowl. Fill the small cup with beans and then pour the beans in the big cup.

When 1 small cup is added to the big cup, count and tally it on a record sheet. Continue until the big cup is full.

Do the same with the cooking pot.

Compare the tallies (or numbers) of small cups used to fill the big cup and the cooking pot. Which one holds more beans (has a greater capacity)?
