Classroom News: October 20th

Homework:
This weekend, students are asked to complete two assignments: “I Wonder” and a Story Retell.  To complete the story retell, students should read any book from home and write about what happened in the beginning, middle, and end.  These will be shared on Monday.

Reading Challenge:
Our class is participating in Scholastic’s “Paws for Reading” challenge.  Kids choose a team – cats or dogs – and log the minutes they read each day.  This letter explains the program further.  In our class, we’ll make a graph to track our reading minutes.  When you sign your child’s agenda each night, please write the number of reading minutes and circle it.  Students should try to read for 15-20 minutes each night.

Halloween Treats:
Our school community is asking all families NOT to bring in treats for Halloween (or other occasions) due to allergies.  You are welcome to send non-food items such as pencils or stickers, but of course this is not expected.  We will be doing lots of fun activities on Halloween!

We will be carving a pumpkin together, and have already estimated the number of seeds. If you are carving a pumpkin at home, have your child estimate and then count the seeds by making groups of 10 for some fun math practice.
